Weather: Tropical humid (81% on average), with two fundamental seasons in the year: one from November to April and another from May to October, both have approximately the same duration and relatively few temperature differences. The Republic of Cuba is an archipelago, with an area of 109,884, 01 km2 composed of the Island of Cuba with an area of 107,464.74 km2, the Isle of Youth with 2 419.27 km2, and some 4 200 adjacent cays and islets, with a surface area of 3 126.41 km2, has a land area of 106 757.60 km2.
Its population is settled in the Island of Cuba and the Isle of Youth, the rest of the archipelago is almost depopulated, with the exception of the tourist centers that are found in some keys.
It is the largest of the Caribbean islands, in which it enjoys a strategic position, 150 km from the United States (Florida) to the North, 77 km from Haiti to the East, about 140 km from Jamaica to the South and about 210 km from Mexico (Yucatán) to the West.
The territory of Cuba is 70% fertile plain, but it has important mountain ranges: the Guaniguanico mountain range in the west of the country, Guamuhaya mountains in the south central part, Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa mountains and Sierra Maestra in the east. The highest elevation in the country is the Turquino Real Peak, which is located in the Sierra Maestra with a height of 1 974 m (5 933 ft) above sea level.
Its position and configuration, elongated and narrow, conditions its fluvial network, which has two slopes, North and South. The beaches have a great tourist attraction and are being exploited as one of the main economic resources of the country.
The length of the rivers is small, 82% of them have between 50-200 km, the largest river is the Cauto with 343km in length and an area of the basin of 8,969 km2.
